Million Dollar PC

During one of my normal browsing sessions, my friend odracir linked me a website about modded computer systems. This is usually not something I look upon, since it usually means flashy, uninspired, overdone, ugly (or more commonly referred as fugly), “insert adjective here”, etc… outputs. Basicly, computer modding together with car modding are synonymous of bad taste.

This is why I was quite surprised by the professional look and slickness of most of the computers showedcase on Million Dollar PC website.

From the ones I saw, Murderbox was one of my favorites. Very robust output, slick design, solid colors, nothing overdone (in my opinion), basically what a computer system should be like (as everything else in life to be honest).

But there are less conventional designs on Million Dollar PC, like he Edelweiss one.

or strange ones like Bill Owen Phenom’s:

And by the way, when I was talking about bad taste and overly done… this is a bit of what I was referring to:

Stefan Eisenacher

It’s really worth checking the rest of the systems in the website, just follow the link bellow.

Why do I find that case mods are intersting and great? The Creativity and pure skill these people utilize to achieve these mods is just so freaking stunning. Yes sure, I don’t like the christmastree look-a-like cases much either, but the cases are often more than just the lights and colors. Reading the logs you can see that.

The world of hand-crafting is dying due to automatical systems and big production lines. If computer cases is where some of that ability is kept alive, then hell, mod more!

I like the first case design and neatness a lot, there’s been great effort put into the cable routing and planning of small details.

Then there’s stuff like Orac3 which…is anything but minimalistic, but it is done so for a purpose of portraying something other than just the usual lights in a case with a window.

I used to follow mods a lot actually, but haven’t for a while now anymore. Most of the newer ones seem to lack the finesse and creativity.

I just have to mention this one more, as I find it among the most interesting ones.

ps. odd thing I just posted above, and now the reply says “error: please fill the required fields (name, email).” while it still shows it correctly above the field. Sigh.

Yes, mindseas, that Doom3 Case Mod is one of the most epic things I’ve ever seen in hardware modification. :D
